The gemstone trade has always tolerated approximation. A stone listed as '1 carat' might weigh 0.94 carats. A '2 carat' ruby might be 1.87. The difference is absorbed into the price, the description, the fine print — and the buyer rarely knows.
We found this unacceptable. Not because the fractions are large, but because they represent a philosophy: that close enough is good enough. We disagree.
Exactcarat was founded on a single constraint: we sell only in whole carats. 1, 2, 3, 5, and 7. If a stone doesn't meet the exact weight, we don't carry it. This is not a marketing position. It is the entire business.
Why Whole Carats
PRECISION AS INTEGRITY
A whole carat is a statement of exactness. When we say 3 carats, we mean 3.00 carats — not 2.97, not 3.04. The number you see is the weight you receive.
RARITY BY DESIGN
Whole-carat stones are rarer than their fractional counterparts. The cutter must sacrifice more rough to achieve an exact weight. That discipline is reflected in every stone we carry.
